Week 1: How I got started in the world of Planning

Welcome to IshitaPaper and Happy New Year!

First of all, Happy New Year! I know the start of the year always holds some excitement in terms of what t to accomplish for the upcoming 12 months. I'm very much that person who loves the start of a New Year. It gives me a chance to take a look back, make adjustments and move forward with changes. I also get a chance to do things I've been dreaming about. Like this blog!

The Beginning

Remember those free planners teachers handed out at the beginning of the year in High School? The ones that had a very distinct smell, the paper felt like receipts and it always had a notes section that always got doodled over, if it ever got used at all. I'd like to credit those very simple and overly lined books for the start of my obsession into planners and planning in general.

Entering college, I remember needing a planner; I had purchased one from the bookstore just to get me through the year. Halfway through the year, it was filled with sticky notes, highlighted marks and scratch outs in the margins. Not a lick of it made sense to anyone else, but, to me, it was every bit of the chaos in my brain laid out on paper. This allowed me a chance to see things written out and prioritize and the satisfaction I got from crossing items off of a list was euphoric.

My First "Official" Planner

I blame Pinterest for really sucking me into the world of Planners in a way that went beyond just a list or two; I'm not sure what my search was at the time, but the rabbit hole of notebooks and lists ended in a gallery of beautiful stickers carefully laid out against stunning writing.

That's when I really discovered the World of Planners.

By my late teens and early twenties, I had purchased my first expensive planner from Erin Condren. This became a lifestyle that I would, seemingly, take to my grave. The internet provided me with inspiration and ideas of what could be used in a planner beyond just "homework due today". And, I began my journey towards this wonderful community of support and creativity.

Starting my Instagram & this Blog

I started my Instagram page for planners on a whim; it helped that the name was easy to come up with. My whole life, my name had been pronounced like a-shee-ta. It was almost too good to be true when the notion of calling it 'ishita paper' came to fruition. It was there that I began posting about my planner(s), the book changes and the sea of stickers and washi tapes that would eventually become second nature to me.

Then came the idea of starting a blog; if only to chronicle my own journey with planners, how I use them and the mental stability that I feel comes from them. To me, planners are like a mental health security blanket - one that I take with me everywhere I go and use to source the chaotic energy of my brain. And, I can't wait to share all of that with you all!

Welcome again, and I hope this blog provides you with some inspiration on your own journey!
