Twisted Hate

By Ana Huang

Book is rated 4 / 5 stars.

This was not the book I was highly excited about in the beginning; I almost skipped this book to get to the last one of this series because I was more anticipating the one. But, I knew I had to read this one. I'm so glad I did. There were so many delicious character twists and spicy scenes that evolved into such a great love story that really felt like it brought the series to a cohesive story arc. Josh and Jules...love them. There are spoilers ahead, so if you haven't read the book, be prepared.

Book Tropes

Spice Level: 4 / 5 (super hot, super, super hot!)

Dual POV.

The Characters

It's no secret that Josh and Jules were not my most anticipated story to read in the Twisted Series. I struggled to really relate to either of them in their introduction in Twisted Love, but that was also because they weren't the point of the story.

Seeing this book really take a deep dive into their characters, their truths and healing the broken things about them was just absolutely incredible. I really liked how they progressed from start to finish and really hitting home that hate is the same passion as love.

I feel like they both really grew over the course of this story, and their bond really shaped into something meaningful. I loved watching them slowly drop hits over time that they really did love each other. The little needs that they both shared, and what they really wanted from each other. My favorite thing is how honest they were with each other - though they utilized their unwillingness to care about the other fertilized that need to be honest, it also really showed how they could see each other through similar eyes in ways that no one else could.

Getting to know Christian more was delightful and I'm all the more excited about his book. Seeing more into Alex was a plus, and I loved that Josh was willing to at least bridge the gap in their broken friendship towards something better. Bridget and Rhys getting married? Honestly, I just want thirty books about the two of them. I loved that insight into their story, too.

The Storyline

Holy, moley, Batman. First of all, the spice in this book was INSANE. I wasn't expecting any of it, but it definitely sparked something in me I didn't think existed. The title of this book is no joke! From their first time, to the heartbreaking break-up and then to the make-up...this whole system of their wants and needs and desires was so elaborate and incredible, and I loved seeing the hate turn into love without missing out on the passion they both shared and required in a relationship.

The primal, territorial part of me loved that I'd marked her.

The storyline, itself, was wonderful. I love a good enemies to lovers storyline, because it really showcases falling in love with the honest and darker side of a person without the pretense of faking who you really are. Jules and Josh were hate from the start, and it got worse and worse the more they saw each other. I liked seeing their connection grow over time and through all the ups and downs.

Jules's mystery with her past was so eye-opening; I really liked how she worked so hard to become someone new, but still held onto her generous values. I hated how much she had to go through with her past and I wanted her to have something good in her life. She deserved better, and the chaos that Josh brought to her in the middle was almost unforgivable. But, I think he did his best to make up for it and she needed someone on her side.

But when I was around Jules, everything else ceased to exist.

For better or for worse.

Seeing the "introduction" of Christian (even though we saw him in Twisted Games) was so cool - and I loved that it was in order to get closer to his love interest in the next book. But, what really got me was how the storyline ended - using him for Jules, and then Alex coming in to fixate on Josh's cleaning up of the problem. I was beyond intrigued, nervous and scared all at the same time through the last quarter of the book. Anyone else? It was terrifying to see Josh so undone, but who doesn't love the (book version only) guy who is willing to kill for the one he loves? But, it lead to Alex and Josh working on their friendship officially was incredible.

"I went from wanting to kill you...to willing to kill for you."

The angst and the heartache that this storyline produced had me in a tight grip. Between their love and their hate, both encompassing their entire souls, it was such a whirlwind for them both. It was great to see them find each other despite it all, even if some of the things that occurred would have been items I would not have forgiven. (Who could ever forget the Bookstore scavenger hunt?)

Continuing the Series

While this is not my favorite storyline in the series or favorite couple, I loved it and I think it's so important to read it in the right order, too. I'm so glad I didn't skip this book and I got to experience the fantasy that has everyone in a chokehold. Josh and Jules really are an incredible pair.

But, I'm still so elated to get to Twisted Lies!

Ana Huang does it again.
